Wine Lovers Tour

The Wine Lovers Tour is the best way to get an in depth understanding of the wines of western Crete.  We start the day heading west where we find Karavitakis Winery. On the way, you’ll learn all about the history of Cretan wine— going back 4000 years. Don’t worry, we make it entertaining and it’ll help you understand why Cretan wine is the way it is.

Karavitakis Winery is newly-renovated and in a beautiful area surrounded by millions of olive trees. First we’ll show you how to properly taste wine; a skill you will have for the rest of your wine tasting days! Then we’ll have a guided tasting of 6 of their wines with snacks. Karavitakis Winery specializes in native Cretan varieties.

Next a quick stop to see the oldest olive tree in the world. Yes, it is the oldest!

Patriotis Winery is only a couple of kilometers away. It’s a new winery to the area, although they’re 4th generation grape-growers. Here we’ll taste wines from several different Greek varieties. The wines are superb. Nearby are their vineyards with an unbelievable view of the sea.

Our last stop is Dourakis Winery nearly up in the mountains. We’ll privately guide you through their winery and explain the wine making process. We’ll be sure to take pictures in the barrel room and cave cellar before heading to the tasting terrace. After tasting 5 of their wines, indulge in appetizers, salad, a main dish and dessert. This full lunch is served with unlimited wine. That’s not a gimmick, we mean it, enjoy as much wine as you can handle- you’re on vacation!

We return you to your hotel/villa safely at the completion of the tour.
